Senna Senna alexandrina

A small shrub with green leaves, orange-yellow flowers, and pods containing up to eight seeds, Senna is a popular laxative. This natural remedy should be used with caution, however, because long-term use could potentially lead to organ failure.

PROPERTIES AND USE:
Laxative, and therefore sometimes used for weight loss
TRADITIONAL PREPARATION:
Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/4 teaspoon dried Senna leaves. Steep for 10 minutes, strain, and then drink warm. For severe constipation, add
1 small pod to the infusion.
